If you could relive one day in high school, what would it be?:

I would not have gotten married on the "rebound" and would have gone on to GPHS. That's why in my last 20 years as school counselor I help and encourage young people to STAY IN SCHOOL! I missed out on so much!

Your best story from school:

I attended Shady Grove Elem from the first through the ninth. In 1968, my last year at Shady Grove (9th gr) my boyfriend, Billy Jack Stewart and I broke up. That destroyed my world as we had planned to marry when I turned 16. But it's interesting how God in His infinite plans, I married Ernest Conatser and had two children with him. In 1971, the year I would have graduated, Ernest and I returned from Alaska, where he had been working in construction. It was upon our returning to the Shady Grove area that I heard from my friends that Billy Jack had been killed in a car accident. I had lost all hope of ever resovling our conflict after the break up. Ernest and I with our two children moved to OK in 1975. I soon lost all track of my Shady Grove and GPHS friends.
In 1998, Ernest and I divorced (but remained very good friends) and Allan Mahler and I married in 1999. Allan was a brain cancer survivor, but had other health problems. Through our time together I found many of my Shady Grove school mates and Allan enjoyed meeting each of them.
It was only in 2009 that I was able to find them again through Classmates.com and internet searches. I found Darla Kaster first, the Debbie and Bubba Lewellen, Royce Pope, Marie Pope Burton, Linda and Terry Burket, Kathy Barton, Reggie Harris, Mike and Debbie (Means) Jackson, (it was like old home week when we all got together). Soon, I found Tammy and Darrell Stewart who want to South GPHS and learned that Billy Jack was alive after all. What a shock! I also reconnected with the Long girls, Shirley Lynch and Jan Turner. What a great blessing that was to reconnect with all of them. While I never attended GPHS, I always wished I could have lived my life over and gone to school with my friends. But I love to hear their stories and feel a strong bond to GPHS. My sister, Sharan Kay Wallace, year younger than I, graduated a GP Gopher in 1972 and I am so proud of her!

What one personal achievement woul you like your classmates to know about you?:

The greatest personal achievement, of which I feel the Lord has directed me through, would have to be my going back to school at age 33 (as a high school dropout) and getting a degree to allow me to work with young people every day-- helping them to learn the value of a good education and the high school experience.

Major or meaningful events since graduation (jobs, trips, family, etc.) 1971 - 1981:

Major events in my life: The birth of my children, grandchildren and now greatgrands; moving to Oklahoma, going to college; going to Holland and Australia and other travels; developing deep lasting friendships but also finding Shady Grove and GPHS friends after more that 40 years. Finding out May 09 that my first love, whom I though was dead all of these years-- is still alive and we have reestablished our friendship and finally the death of my husband, who had been ill quite sometime, Jan. 26, 2011.

Major or meaningful events since graduation (jobs, trips, family, etc.) 1981 - 1991:

I have married my high school sweetheart, whom I had presumed dead for these last 40 years. Found out he was alive on May 3, 2009. He was able to meet my now deceased husband, and we later married July 23, 2013.
