August 17, 1952 - February 2, 2023

Carey Wayne Loyd, 70, loving son, brother, uncle and faithful friend, passed away on February 2, 2023 at a hospital in Arlington, Texas.

Visitation: 12 to 2 p.m. Friday, February 10 at Guerrero-Dean Funeral Home, 500 E Main Street, Grand Prairie, TX, 75050 where Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Tom Watson officiating. Committal Service with Military Honors: 3 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at DFW National Cemetery.

Carey Wayne Loyd was born on August 17, 1952 in Anadarko, Oklahoma, the son of George Andrew Loyd and the late Nola Mae Duckett Loyd. His family would move to Grand Prairie where he attended Grand Prairie High School, graduating in 1971. He participated in Rodeo Club, Grand Prairie Range Riders and baseball.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1971 and served 24 years in the Army National Guard, retiring as a Sgt. E5 in 1995. During his service, he worked in several segments including helicopter crews, tank commander and sharpshooter training. He held the Lightweight Division Boxing record at Fort Hood until 2003. He was dedicated soldier and a true patriot.

His family recalls his amazing ability to sell. He worked as a salesman for many years in various fields, including waterbeds for Shallow Waterbeds. He also worked in security for Lone Star Park, Care Flight and other companies.

As a COWBOY...he didn't just "wear the hat." He participated in many rodeo events including bull-dogging and bronc and bull-riding.

He enjoyed camping, fishing, hiking and mountain-climbing. If there wasn't a mountain or hill, he could climb any tree with his gear.

After a serious debilitating illness he was confined to a wheelchair. He never lost his keen sense of humor or his love for animals. One of his favorite things to do was to sit on the porch and feed the squirrels by hand. He made sure the bird-feeders were always full for the many birds that stopped to eat.

He is survived by his father, George Loyd; brother, Michael Loyd and spouse Maggie; nephew, Robert Gordon Loyd and many who were proud to call him friend.

In spite his health challenges, he NEVER failed to bring a smile or a laugh to the moment shared. He will be greatly missed.
