Edith Smith (Steele)

Edith Elisa Smith Steele
January 29, 1953 - August 8, 2020

It is with overwhelming sorrow that the family of Edith Elisa Steele announce the unexpected passing of their Mother and Grandmother on Saturday August 8, 2020 at the age of 67. She meets in heaven, her very recently departed husband, partner, best friend of 44 years Raymond Keith Steele.

She was a resident of West Valley City UT.

Edith is preceded in death by her loving husband who passed on May 7, 2020 and her parents George and Maria Smith.

She is survived by her three children and spouses; Shayne Steele, Rondi (Shaun) Sterzer, Kari (Todd) Overson; her six Grandchildren Gage, Zack, Jurnee, Grayson, Zayden, and Lachlan; her brothers Ronald, Pete (Marilynn), and Randy (Lori). She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, inlaws and other family members as well as friends who are grieving her loss.

She was born January 29, 1953 to George Howard Smith and Maria Evelyn Smith in Mobile AL. Spent her youth with her brothers being transferred all over the country, AL, Ok, PA, CA, TX, and FL. From a very devoted family came the importance of a close family unit. Just like her father, family was everything to Edith. The family followed in this trend, remaining close throughout their lives.

She met Ray while he was on Mission in Florida. It was not until she moved to Utah to attend BYU that they rekindled their friendship, that turned into a beautiful love story that even transcends their departure from this earthly realm. Their marriage was built on a lasting foundation, which held them strong through all of the triumphs and tribulations of their lives.

Rays passion for flight was the spark necessary to open up their own flight school, Professional Flight Services. Edith diligently worked to get this business off the ground and for 18 years made it a resounding success.

She will always be remembered as an easy friend. She had a wide variety of interests and topics, and was never happier than to be amongst family and friends chatting away. Her kind and compassionate demeanor brought so many people into her life who will miss her significantly.

Her life was filled with family, friends, and happiness. Never one to let life bring her down, she took her energy and inspiration from her love of her children and grandchildren. Who filled her days with life, laughter, and love.

A Celebration of her life was held August 29th. Please join the Facebook event Celebration of life for Edith and Ray Steele.
