Carmelo Lopez Cantu, Jr.
September 6, 1952 - February 25, 2022

Carmelo Lopez Cantu Jr, 69, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and faithful friend, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 25, 2022.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 14, 2022, at Guerrero-Dean Funeral Home, 500 E Main Street, Grand Prairie, TX, 75050. Graveside with Military Honors: 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at DFW National Cemetery.

Carmelo Cantu was born in Phoenix, Arizona, relocating to San Angelo, Texas, with his family at a young age. They would then move to Grand Prairie where he attended middle school, and graduated from Grand Prairie High School in 1971.

He would join the US Marine Corp in 1972. He served in various locations across the world for a total of 8 years. Shortly after his discharge, he would begin a career in funeral service, graduating from Dallas Institute of Funeral Service, class of 1997, as one of the most polished and well-dressed funeral professionals the school had ever seen.

Carmelo would work for various funeral merchants, meeting customers all across North Texas. He has been associated with Guerrero-Dean Funeral Home since 2001. His cheery "good morning" greeting was his signature acknowledgment. He never seemed to have a bad day, and was always positive. He had the needs for the day in order in the mornings, and greeted friends and families in the parking lot when they arrived for afternoon and evening services.

He loved music of many genres, ranging from Tejano, to Classic Country and Western. It would always be a jolt to get into the last vehicle he was driving because the radio would be turned on loud to his interest for the day. He never rejected an invitation to watch boxing, live or on television, especially with his brother, Ignacio. He had a knack to winning with scratch-off lottery tickets, always with a little extra winnings in his pocket.

Never a complainer, most did not realize he was a cancer survivor, overcoming the removal of part of a lung. He never complained or rejected an assignment, his customary response always the same, "I'll take care of it"! His work associates relied on him heavily, knowing his word was never an issue.

Survivors: children, Christopher Cantu and Clarisa Cantu; grandchildren; Lindsey, Lauren, Gabriel, Icis, Julius; great-grandchildren; Luka and Camilla; brother, Ignacio Cantu and Jonathan.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Petra Cantu.
